Here’s a snippet of a normal day for me in Northeast Arkansas. I am fortunate to be surrounded by students every day of the week. I’m a K-8 Library Media Specialist and I love it! My teaching career has included equal time in regular classroom and now two libraries. While some believe librarians get to snuggle up in a comfy chair and read books all day – that’s not the case. *sigh* There are frameworks to teach and book chats to chatter, technology to tackle and reluctant readers to entice. There are children who need words to validate their world – bound words, digital words, fat and skinny words. Each child needs the security that only a good read can give them and one of my jobs is to make sure they get the perfect book. I love my job.

At 4:00 it’s time to go home to a house that’s not spotless and prepare a dinner that’s never perfect. But my precious husband never complains and our pets are happy with their kibble with “sprinkles” and the tidbits we sneak to them during the meal. Around 7:00, it’s off to the office to write. Sometimes it seems more like disjointed jots – a string of words that God plants in my head for closer inspection at a later date. Other times, a full-blown story will arrive and demand to be told. And occasionally … the writing is like pulling teeth. But even those evenings are pure heaven and my writing time is one of my favorite times of the day. The absolute BEST time of the day?? Waking up and saying hi to God. It’s hard to trump that.
