Praying the Words

2 Samuel 14:14 “Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.”

Lord, please devise a means of keeping my child from evading Your grasp. Please devise a means of turning her from the broad road to the narrow one. Please devise means of convicting her of sin and guarding her from Satan. Devise a means of intervening as necessary to keep her from harming herself and others. Devise a means of bringing her into fullness of the victorious Christian life—

Nudge her, God—

And inspire good changes in my child today. Amen.” (Moments for Families with Prodigals,” Robert J. Morgan.

After many, many years of terrible heartache, tears and prayers, I began to apply the words of others who had traveled the same path we were on, such as this one above, by Robert J. Morgan.

While there is no “special formula” for successful prayers, this method became therapeutic for me as the pray-er. Reading heartfelt words and thoughts of another hurting parent who had a child (no matter how old) exercizing their free will to be a prodigal was strengthening, encouraging and comforting.

During this time it was reassuring to read the words of the Heavenly Father talk to His prodigals who too often chose their way instead of His, suffering painful consequences. After all, He had two children raised in a gorgeous garden setting who still chose to go their own way, even in a perfect world! He certainly understands my pain and hurt.

When I prayed that the Lord would devise a means of keeping her from evading His grasp, and make her a captive, imprisoned in His loving arms of protection, little did I know how He would accomplish this, but accomplish it He did.

And so Lord, in that spirit, I continue to come before You asking:

“Give my child

Discipline and Diligence

Direction in Life

Devotion to Christ and

Delight in Your Word.

In Jesus Name, Amen”. (also Robert J. Morgan)
