Time For God

Time for God
Our annual ACFW conference came and went. It was my first, and pretty awesome. Though, I learned a lot from workshops, I learned more from meeting with friends—old and new. What I took away from the conference that affected my life most was the peace from prayer.

Different people told me about the prayer room, and I did stop to see how it was set up. It was just a room with chairs lined up against three walls. In one corner stood a table that held an open Bible and some note cards where you could write down scriptures. A few prayer requests had been posted for those needing prayer. Nothing special.

I’m a private person. If I wanted to pray, I could do so anytime, anywhere without anyone witnessing my tears or my happiness. I didn’t need a prayer room for time with God.

I was wrong. My first night there, I said my prayers and then tossed and turned for most of the night—I was too excited to sleep. Next morning, I woke up early and since I had nothing to do, I went down to the prayer room. It was quiet. At 4 a.m. not many people are out of bed. I sat down in a chair in the corner of the room. I sat there, still, and cleared my thoughts. I poured my heart out to God, and when I left the room, I knew a great peace in my soul. Throughout the conference, I was drawn to the room many times. But it wasn’t the room. I believe it was the stillness, and quietness that called me. With no distractions, I could sit, be still, and concentrate on my time with God.

I leave you with a scripture that I’ve been carrying around in my heart. Psalms 46:10a—Be still and know that I am God.
